Algeria Plans to Import One Million Heads of Cattle for Eid al-Adha
The Algerian President, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, has instructed the government to launch an international tender to import around one million heads of cattle in preparation for Eid al-Adha.
According to a statement from the Algerian Presidency, the country aims to import one million heads of cattle to meet the demand for the upcoming Eid al-Adha celebrations.
The President has ordered the preparation of a tender document to launch an international consultation to import the cattle, with a focus on countries with the capacity to supply the required quantity.
The Algerian government will be responsible for importing the cattle through its specialized institutions and agencies, and will work with public cooperatives to sell the cattle during Eid al-Adha.
Additionally, the President has instructed the government to explore the possibility of selling the cattle through social services departments of public institutions and companies, which will be responsible for distribution and coordination with social partners.
The Algerian Minister of Transport, Said Saoud, emphasized the importance of reopening the dry port of Teksebt, east of the state of Bordj Bou Arréridj, and noted that instructions have been given to the ports of Arzew, Oran, Algiers, Annaba, and Skikda to prepare for the reception and distribution of the imported cattle.
These measures aim to make the Eid al-Adha sacrifice accessible to Algerians with limited incomes, after years of high prices.
