Protesters Block Major Roads in Tripoli, Zawiya, and Sorman Demanding End to Current Political Bodies
Mass protests erupted across several Libyan cities, including Tripoli, Zawiya, and Sorman, where demonstrators blocked major roads and set tires on fire in a bold call for the dissolution of all current political entities governing the country.
In Tripoli, protesters brought traffic to a halt by blocking the highway and key intersections such as Al-Furnaj roundabout, Zannata traffic lights, and the Shatt–Shaab road. Burning tires were used to barricade the streets, creating widespread disruption and paralyzing the capital’s main routes.
The demonstrators held up placards and chanted slogans rejecting the continued presence of the existing political bodies, insisting on their immediate departure to pave the way for a new era of governance.
In Zawiya, the entrance to the city via the Al-Sumood Gate was completely blocked, along with the road near the Daman traffic signal. The tense atmosphere was marked by strong public frustration, with protesters accusing the political leadership of ignoring their demands and vowing to escalate their actions if necessary.
Sorman witnessed similar unrest, as protestors cut off roads leading to the city center and ignited fires in several areas. Protesters declared that both the political and security crises cannot be resolved without a comprehensive overhaul of the current power structures.
Social media platforms were flooded with videos showing blocked roads, blazing tires, and chants from the demonstrators. There has been no official response yet from either of Libya’s rival governments or the political councils in the East or West.
These protests reflect growing discontent among Libyans who are fed up with stagnation, corruption, and a political process that appears disconnected from their daily struggles.
