Syrian Observatory: Death Toll in Syrian Coast Exceeds 1,018 Civilians

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights announced on Saturday evening that the death toll in the Syrian coast has risen to 1,018 people, including 745 civilians who were killed in cold blood in sectarian massacres.

The Observatory stated that the number of deaths has increased significantly since the entry of armed groups to support security forces and formations of the Ministry of Defense. It also mentioned that 125 members of the General Security and Ministry of Defense, including at least 93 Syrians, were killed in the clashes.

The Observatory added that the situation in the region has deteriorated, with electricity and water supplies cut off in large areas of the Latakia countryside for the second consecutive day, leading to a disruption of services, particularly communications, in some areas.

Since Thursday, the Syrian coast, where the majority of the Alawite population lives, has witnessed bloody clashes that have claimed the lives of dozens. Syrian security forces announced that they had clashed with armed groups affiliated with the former regime.

A military source announced on Saturday that the military operation in the Syrian coast had been halted until the removal of non-affiliated elements with the security and military establishment.
