_Syria: 6 Professors at Damascus Dental School Arrested on Corruption Charges_

Imad Al-Ayoubi, Director of the University City and the official in charge of following up on the corruption file at the Faculty of Dentistry at Damascus University, announced the arrest of 6 professors at the faculty, 4 of whom were finally convicted on corruption charges.

In statements to the Syrian TV website, Al-Ayoubi explained that the task of the committee in charge of following up on the corruption file is limited to receiving complaints, verifying their authenticity, and referring them to the designated committees via a link attached to the documents. He pointed out that some professors were suspended pending the completion of the investigation.

Al-Ayoubi also touched on the nature of the cases and violations that reach the committee, stating that they include bribery, writing reports by professors or students, or assaults that may reach physical violence, including "bullying" practiced by some student union representatives, which reached "some of them being involved in bloodshed," as he put it. He also confirmed that some of them exploited their positions.

The educational official pointed out that the committee is continuing its work, and there is no time limit for considering the complaints submitted to it. He explained that following up on these violations will positively contribute to strengthening the educational institution, which has suffered from corruption, like other institutions.

In another context, Al-Ayoubi said that the results of the census launched by the University City administration to follow up and count the violations in it showed that the union had its hand on more than 200 rooms in the city, where it was taking more than 20 rooms in each housing unit and granting them to its affiliates, including students who were not entitled to housing or employees and others, all without right. He added that everyone who is not entitled to housing there will be removed after the exams.
