Algeria's Ministry of Agriculture has awarded a $420 million agricultural project to Italian company Bonifiche Ferraresi (BF). The project, which will be implemented in the province of Timimoun, southern Algeria, aims to produce grains, legumes, and pasta.
The project will cover an area of 36,000 hectares and will include the production of wheat, lentils, dried beans, chickpeas, and soybeans. Additionally, the project will involve the establishment of pasta production units, storage facilities, and other basic infrastructure.
The total cost of the project is estimated at $420 million, and it is expected to create over 6,700 job opportunities. The project is part of a partnership between the Italian group BF and the Algerian National Investment Fund, which was signed in July 2024.
The project aims to enhance national production of grains and legumes, increase exports outside the oil sector through the export of pasta, and create jobs. This project is a significant step towards achieving Algeria's goal of self-sufficiency in durum wheat by 2027.
